The market

Doing business in Kolkata.

Kolkata is a trading city. Burrabazar's wholesale lanes move textiles, spices and dry goods to the whole of eastern India, much of it still on paper ledgers and phone calls. Tea and jute have been traded here for generations, and family businesses tend to be old, trusted and careful with change.

It is also a city that shops and celebrates in its own way. Sweet shops with a loyal neighbourhood following, Park Street restaurants, book lovers on College Street, and Durga Puja, when pandals draw crowds for days and organisers juggle sponsors, volunteers and visitor flow.

We work with Kolkata businesses remotely and design for Bengali from the start, not as a translation added at the end.

What Kolkata businesses ask for

Built around how Kolkata works.

The products local businesses come to us for most, and the reason each one matters here.

  1. 01

    Wholesale ordering and credit

Burrabazar traders run on credit and repeat orders. A simple ordering app with a credit ledger replaces the phone call and the notebook.

  2. 02

    Sweet shops that ship

Mishti travels to family abroad and across India. A store with pre-orders, festive boxes and delivery dates handles the gifting rush.

  3. 03

    Puja and event management

Pandal committees handle passes, sponsors, volunteers and crowd timings. Event tools built for crowds, like our Outpass build, fit well.

  4. 04

    Billing for counter shops

GST invoices, a customer khata and stock in one place, in Bengali for the person at the counter.

Questions from Kolkata

Asked and answered.

Can the app be in Bengali?

Yes. We design every screen to hold Bengali script cleanly, test it with real phrases rather than placeholder text, and keep all wording in translation files your team can edit. For counter staff and delivery partners, Bengali first often matters more than for customers, so we usually start there.

Our business still runs on ledgers. Is an app too big a jump?

Not if it starts small. We often begin with one thing that already hurts — taking repeat orders, tracking credit or sending bills — and make that easier than the notebook. Once your team trusts it, more can move across. Our Tillbook build shows what a simple billing and khata app looks like.

Do you work with Kolkata clients remotely?

Yes. Our studio is in Bengaluru and we work with Kolkata teams remotely: a kick-off call, a shared board, and a weekly demo link you can open on any phone. You see working screens from the first fortnight, so you can show family partners or staff and get their view early.

Who owns the code and designs?

You do. Source code, design files and brand assets are handed over in full, in repositories and tools your team can keep using.
